Lets Role

So I'm currently in the middle of downloading Dungeons and Dragons Online Stormreach.  It's um, Dungeons and Dragons, online.  I used to play it, just didn't want to pay for it.  Now, you can play it for free, so guess who will start playing it again?  That would be me, Jon.  Hell yes.  I'm thinking I'll have to hit up Corath, my human fighter, and see where it leads me.  I hope that name isn't taken, though I fear that it is.  I'll be fairly happy though.  I don't think you could choose humans last time around, though I could be wrong about that of course.

So I've been talking to Sam a lot lately, which is pretty sweet.  She seems to have changed a lot from when I uesd to talk to her back in highschool, but that's natural more than likely.  I just got down watching her do her little rave thing.  She likes playing with those toys, that's for sure.  And actually, I can see why.  They look like a lot of fun, though horrible complex to do the things that she did.  I'm fairly certain that I would end up smashing my face in with those fancy shiny lights of hers.  She also gave me a website to check out to see how I like the music.  It's at www.di.fm. and so far, it's too bad.  Though the songs are as long as all hell.  Man.  I'll get used to it, or never listen to it again.  Though I'm leaning towards getting used to it.

Talking to her makes me remember the Dish though.  The Dish is this big old, deserted military satellite in southern Maryland that she took me too once.  It was awesome.  High as all hell, but I climbed that thing and I don't think I've ever seen a nicer view.  Seriously, it was like I was in a movie.  I loved it.  I really want to go back there right now, but I don't eve think it's up anymore.  Probably not, it was supposed to get torn down a long time ago.

Ah, that's enough for now.  Don't want to get all nostalgic on you guys.  WAIT!  I sold my old car today for $200.  Okay, that's for tomorrow though.  Now you may leave.

Peace Out.

The Top Ten -- Pokemon

Posted by thegeekcorner on June 15, 2009 at 9:47 PM Comments comments (1)

After a long time of not having this, it's time to bring it back, and what better to bring it back with than a good old geeky list of my favorite Pokemon.  Lets start this shall we?

Number Ten: Ursaring

Ursaring starts off my list here.  A couple of you, especially those who talk to me about pokemon, are completely shocked right now.  I never mention him, seeing as how he's nothing all that special.  The first games he was out in, Gold and Silver, I never used him, or even caught him I don't believe.  It wasn't until Pokemon XD that I really started using him and just fell in love with him.  You slap a Return on this guy and he just destorys people.  I love it.  Plus, I like the idea of a big old bear slapping your pokemon around.

Number Nine: Torterra

A relatively new guy, and I think he's the newest Pokemon on my list, is the starter from the Diamond and Pearl series.  He's a Ground/Grass, and really think the biggest reason I like him is because he learns Earthquake as soon as it evolves.  Plus, I like the idea of a Pokemon being like a mini Earth, destorying people.  Reminds me of a random DnD monster who's name escapes me at the moment.  He just reminds me of a raw wall of grass and dirt.  Plus, he has a tree growing on his back.  Hell yes.

Number Eight:  Alakazam

I think just about everyone likes this pokemon.  In the original games, you were almost stupid to not have him on your team.  This dude is a psychic power hosue of doom and power.  Plus, his name is cool.  His whole evolutionary line was pretty bad assed when it came to names.  Yeah, his power level has changed over the course of the games, but he's always been a damn good psychic pokemon.  Almost better than Mewtwo.  Almost.

Number Seven: Lugia

Ah yes, Lugia, the only legendary Pokemon on my list.  I think I first fell for this guy in Pokemon Silver.  He's the first legendary you can get in that game I think, and he's just pretty bad ass.  Plus, I think he's the only one to naturally learn Aeroblast, which is a sweet name.  He's also a pure badass in Pokemon XD.  Dark Lugia is strong as hell and you have to very uniquely purify him.  He's just awesome, and deserves the spot it got.

Number Six:  Dragonite

Now I know there are so called better dragons out there, especially if you like your competitive battling, but this guy was the original.  He was the one you fished for in the Safari Zone for hours on end, the one you don't mind leveling up to level 55, even though he sucks until then. He's an all around great guy to have on your team at the end of the game.  Sure, others might be stronger, faster, or more defensive, but he's so freaking sweet still.

Number Five:  Swampert

It seems that I have a thing for defensive minded pokemon doesn't it?  Swampert was my favorite pokemon from the Ruby and Saphire series and really, it was a good pokemon.  It wasn't super great or amazing or anything like that, but that doesn't mean anything.  He's another guy who learns Earthquake.  I think I just like that move.  I think everyone likes that move, it's a great move.  I'm not a huge fan of this guys looks, which aren't anything all that special as you can see.  It's just his playability.  I was never disappointed when he was on my team.  He could hang with the best and totally kick ass.

Number Four:  Magnezone

This guy is a late comer in the land of my favorites. I really wasn't all that into him, or anyone else in his line, until Platinum came out.  I think I tried out Silver again a bit before that, and realized that he's simply amazingly strong.  He goes against what I traditionally see as an electric pokemon, seeing as how he's a slow moving hunk of metal, but I can see around that.  A lot of people give him guff because he's a newly evolved guy but he's totally cool.  I think just about everyone should have a few of them on the team.

Number Three:  Scizor

This one was a hard choice.  I loved Scyther for the longst time, and then he got an evolved form!  What the hell was I supposed to do?  I picked the evolved form.  Yeah, he doesn't have the speed of Scyther, but he's just as freaking sweet.  Plus he's red, he's steel, and he still freakng kicks ass.  Seriously, he just runs through people, it's pretty sweet.  Sure, he burns like a bisuit, but whatever you know?  He's a great guy.  He doesn't learn Earthquake, but hey, no one is perfect.

Number Two:  Gardevoir

Gardevoir is a strange choice for me.  I really don't know why I like it so much.  I think it has something to do with being a kick ass version of Alakazam, only with some special defense so it can take a hit if you need it to.  Plus, I liked Imprisom, even if it's not all that great.  I think it just has to be because it's such a strange looking Pokemon.  Is it a chick?  Is it an alien?  Hell, does it even have two eyes?  Who knows?  Not this Pokemon Master, that's for sure.

Number One: Venusaur

And last, but hardly least, is the mighty, the incredible, the powerful, Venusaur.  I love this Pokemon.  He's a big old, dinosaur looking thing with a giant flower on his back, but it's still freaking sweet.  I know grass isn't the strongest of all the types out there, and poison brings it down even more in my opinion, but that doesn't mean a thing to me.  I almost never use him as a defensive Pokemon, even though you should make him one, but hell, I can't help using Solar Beam and especially Razor Leaf. He's been my favorite since the games first came out, and I dont' forsee that changing any time in the future.

So there you have it, my top ten favorite Pokemon.  Crazy isn't it?  And that's that for the Pokemon tonight, I'll let you guys go.  See you all later.

Peace Out.

The End of My Trip

Finally, at long last, and something aroud a week overdue, is the last day of my vacation down to Maryland.  Saturday morning started off with kind of a rush.  Woke up at around 7 in the morning, and pretty much started cleaning. Yay for me?  Had to pick up the living room mostly, seeing as how my dad enjoys waiting until the last moment to do anything.  Anyways, we pretty much had almost everything cleaned up by the time the first few guests began to show up for Sean's graduation party.

The party seemed pretty good.  The food was amazing, especially those barbeque chicken strips.  Great stuff.  Joel and Steven came over while Sean kicked it with this friends elsewhere.  It was good, hanging out with them one last time.  We played some games of Magic, and I managed to win one, with Joel's help of course.  I'm really going to miss those guys.  Being 800 miles away from them sometimes really sucks.  I have to say the coolest thing that happened that day was the neighbor randomly came over and gave us (read: me) like a whole box of Magic cards.  Freaking sweet.  I got some decent cards in there too.

Later that night, after Joel and Steven had left and most of Sean's guests had left as well, I was able to sneak away from everyone and saw Megan one last time as well.  Nothing happened, unfortunately.  We sat and talked a bit and I definitely got a vibe off of  her that she was enjoying being alone with me.  I think that if she was single, something very likely could have happened.  As it is, we hugged a lot.  They were nice hugs too, especially since I've been missing a good hug ever since my break up with Amanda.

I left the next day.  Somewhere around Pennsylvania, I managed to run my car into someone else's bumper.  That rather pissed me off, I can't lie.  But whatever, I made it back to my grandpa's and the car is still running, so yay for me, right?  Anyways, it's time to go back to Tuesday real quick.  I left out one rather important thing.  And thinking back, it might have been on Wednesday instead.  In fact, I think it was.  I went to the library!  Yay!  I saw a bunch of my old coworkers.  I can't lie, it was nice seeing them, and they all seemed to care that I was down there.  And, I saw Diana!  Woohoo.  She's still looking great by the way, even after she had a kid.  I didn't get to hang out with her much, but it was nice talking to her.  She looked rather warn down, but I think that has more to do with the fact her hair wasn't a crazy color this time, but had a faded red looking going for her.  Still, she's cool.  I always liked working with her.  I am sorry that I missed seeing Sally when I was down.  She was always one of my favorite librarians.

I have noticed something on my return to Michigan.  I'm horrible home sick.  It's really strong too.  I think I just miss being social.  I have very few good friends up here, and I realize that's mostly my fault.  I'm too damn shy for my own good.  Down there, I could hang with whoever the heck I wanted to.  Including the women.  Crazy.  I can see why Amanda said I changed so much.  I'm much more of a downer now that I'm back up here, and it's probably shown rather clearly on Facebook and Twitter and those kinds of things.  But yeah, to all those I've mentioned in the last few days, I miss you guys.  I may not always show it, but I do.  Even you Amanda.

And now it's time for me to go be emo for awhile.

Peace Out.

More of the Trip, Delayed Naturally

Alright, sorry about that guys, it's been awhile since I've written on here.  I'm really not as good as I would like to be when it comes to dealing with these things.  Oh well.

Continuing the story of my trip, I believe this brings us up to Thursday morning now.  Thursday was the advent of a lot of little almost happenings.  Well, sort of.  Okay, not really.  The biggest thing that I did that day was hang out with Megan.  We caught some Coldstone first, and she brought her girlfriend, Angel.  I know, she has a girlfriend!  What the heck right?  I was totally expecting to get some out of that girl, and she has a girlfriend.  Man.  Oh well, I'm still not sure that I should have gotten back in touch with her, but hopefully it'll turn out for the best.  Who knows.  I'm sentimental like that.  Whatever.

Anyways, I totally bought myself some Orange Dreamsicle ice cream.  I'm fairly certain that I spelled that wrong too.  Afterwards, we all headed out to the bowling alley she works at and played some games.  Four of them I believe.  And I won three of them.  I'm not sure how either.  They bowl in leagues, I don't.  But hey, I scored a 170, which is a personal best for me, so yay?  Anyways, it was nice to see her again.  She had dyed her hair black, which I have always thought is a dead sexy color for hair.  She claimed to have lost some weight since I've last seen her... yeah, didn't happen.  If anything she's put on some weight, but who am I to judge, right?  I'm not the thinnest guy in the world mysef.

The rest of the day wasn't all that special, just cleaning mostly and things like that, so we'll skip forward and go to Friday.  Friday started off with a disappointing lack of talking to Steven.  And then he called back, so that quickly worked itself out.  Turns out the loser was at work.  We did the typical Jon and Steven stuff.  We bowled, we had pizza, we played a random video game.  I actually narrowly defeated the guy at bowling for a change too.  It was pretty sweet.  We started playing some Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, created a new guy named Starscream.  We managed to get halfway through the game before I had to get going.  It was good seeing the kid again, I can't lie  I've been far too distant from people back there.

Stay tuned (hopefully tomorrow) for my last day there and some wrap up reflections.

Peace Out.

The Trip Continued

Posted by thegeekcorner on June 9, 2009 at 9:16 PM Comments comments (0)

Alright, time to continue this thing guys.  When we last left, I had just left Joel's house on Monday night, and that was naturally followed by me falling asleep and waking up on Tuesday morning.

Tuesday was a rather laid back day for me, spending most of the day with Sean and the rest of the family.  If I remember correctly, I got to my mom's townhouse at around 10:30 in the morning and no one was there.  Well, no one answered the door at least.  So I bummed around the local Borders, then was finally able to get into their house at sometime around 11:00.  I took Sean and we went on our merry way to Best Buy, to help him pick out a laptop, or at least figure out which one he would like Mom and Dad to buy him.  He settled on a Toshiba L355D-S7901 if I remember correctly.  It's a rather nice, all around computer.  He should be happy with it when he finally gets the thing.

After the stop at Best Buy, I dragged Sean over to Comics MD, the sweet action comic and card shop about 20 minutes away.  It was pretty awesome.  I got some comics there, as well as some cards.  Well, I myself only really got one comic.  you see, it was one comic, All Hail Megatron #11, but it had two different covers, so I had to grab one of each.  I also bought Sean a copy of the Ultimate X Men/Ultimate Fantastic Four flip comic.  I had one, so hopefully he'll like the thing as well.  It was a nice haul.  Out of the cards, I didn't really get anything all that special.  Oh well, it happens.

The rest of the day was rather uneventful.  We went back to the townhouse and played Rock Band for awhile.  Though we did get the coolest name in the entire world for our band on random:  Hardlaser Ether.  Freaking sweet.  I was rocking the guitar, and Sean was all over vocals.  For as much crap as I give that kid, he sure can sing something fierce.  He's no rocker though.  Not by a long shot.  But yeah, that's about it Tuesday, so lets move on, shall we?

Wednesday it rained.  All day.  Okay, not all day, more like at the end of the day, but still, it was kind of crappy.  Other than that, it was hot as hell all day long, and I was outside for most of it, trying to set up a pool for my dad/mom/one of them.  It was hard, grueling work, and it rather sucked hard.  But, it was worth it in the end I suppose.

Later that day, I was originally going to go see a ballgame with April, but because of the rain we decided to go to the movies instead.  Sean came along, as did April's sister, Vicky.  I think that was her name at least.  We ended up seeing Terminator Salvation, which was a lot better than I thought it was going to be.  Which reminds me, I should probably go ahead and make a review about that for all of you. But it was good to see April.  We didn't get to hang out much, seeing as how it was raining, but it was still nice.  I forgot how funny that girl is, even if she was making inside jokes with her sister the entire time.  She's looking good though, seems to have lost some weight.  I would probably make a pass at her if I was, you know, 800 miles closer.

And that was my next two days folks.  Stay tuned tomorrow for when I go into detail the events of Thursday and Friday.  Maybe Saturday.  Who knows how I'll feel.

Peace Out.

The Trip

Posted by thegeekcorner on June 8, 2009 at 10:09 PM Comments comments (0)

Alright, I have half a feeling this one is going to be a long one tonight folks, so be prepared to be reading this for awhile.  I could be wrong though.  Only one way to find out though, know what I mean?  Time to get writing.  Also, no Top Ten this week.  I apologize for any faithful fans of the segment.

We'll go in days at a time, so naturally, it all begins on Sunday.  Sunday morning to be specific.  The family and I, that would be my Uncles Chris and Rich, my Grandpa Olson, and myself, left the house around 6:00 in the morning.  It was a little bit afterwards, but still closer than what I thought it would be.  Stopped at a Big Boy for a breakfast buffet around 9:00 and kept going from there.  Uncle Chris road with me until we hit Ohio, and then Grandpa road wtih me until we got into Waldorf.  I forgot how funny Uncle Chris could be, in his hugely sarcastic way.  I think that we arrived into Waldorf around 8, though it might have been a little bit earlier than that too.  We stopped at my mom's first, but not too long. I headed over to my dad's, had some pizza, met Sarah, who isn't too bad looking, and then headed to the couch to sleep.

Monday was the big day:  Sean's graduation.  It was nice and not super long.  It was only about an hour and a half long.  Thank goodness.  Sean totally composed a song for the graduation, as well as conducted it.  It was fairly good too.  And of course I screamed his name out too, but no, he didn't hear me, did he?  Gosh, that kid.  But no, it was still pretty sweet.  The whole ceremony was over in an hour and a half, so it was pretty short in my view.  Outside, we took some pictures, Sean being the center of attention of course.

Afterwards we all went our seperate ways.  I honestly cant' remember what I did.  I think I went into Best Buy, just to see how different it all is.  It's definitely nicer than the one up here.  It even has a Magnolia Store in it.  Score.  But no, then we went over to Sakura Japan, and that was nice, even if we had to wait for 30 minutes for my dad to show up.  You see, at Sakura, they make the food right in front of you, which is freaking sweet.  It's always a good eat, but I have to admit, this time the guy just didn't put his heart into the performance.  It was still nice, especially if it was your first time there, which I think it was for about half of our party, but I know they can do a lot better.

Joel's was after that.  I think I chilled with him for something like four hours.  It was pretty awesome.  That kid is a blast to be around.  I forgot how much I missed being no more than an hour away from him.  Did we do a lot?  Of course not.  We never do much.  Did we play Magic?  Hell yes.  Did he kick my ass in it?  It wouldn't be a game of Magic if he didn't.  Did I enjoy it though?  You better believe it.  It just goes to show that my Glorious Bant deck needs some major working on, especially on that mana base.  But we also played some PS3.  I played LittleBigPlanet and Portal.  Little Big Planet is a great game, but Joel is right, it is a lot more fun if you have more players.  Portal is a great game too.  In fact, I want to get a PS3 just for that damn game now.  The way I see it, if I have $1500 by the end of the summer saved up, I'll go ahead and buy myself one.  A kind of treat to myself.

But guys, this is getting really long, and it's only my first two days.  I think I'll be breaking it up into a tale that will cross over into multiple days.  So tomorrow, you guys are looking forward to at least Tuesday and Wednesday, and maybe some more than that.  So take care you all, and thanks for sticking wtih me.

Peace Out.

The Longest Day Ever?

Posted by thegeekcorner on May 30, 2009 at 12:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Naw, today isn't the longest day ever.  I think the only reason that it seems that it is so long is because I have to go to work later.  Crazy.  Another 5:30 to 9:00 shift answering phones.  It's not a bad job, it's halfway decent to tell you the truth.  It's just that it's either really dul, or your balls to the wall busy.  And I'm not really sure why.  I hope it's not really busy again.  It's the weekend though, and I'm not sure how many people call into Best Buy on Saturdays.  Oh well though, no way to tell until it's all over, you know what I mean?

I'll be leaving tomorrow.  That's just awesome.  Well, arriving will be awesome.  I don't really expect the driving will be all that much fun.  Especially because we're now leaving aan hour later than I would rather like to leave.  I can't really blame Uncle Chris, seeing as how he doesn't get out of work until 11, but still, I like leaving as possible.  And for me, as early as possible is 5 in the morning, not 6.  I can get up at 6 on a normal day if I need to.  Getting up at 4 in the morning to leave at 5 is just my thing, you know? I just want to get there as soon as possible.

I LEAVE TOMORROW!!!!!

Peace Out.

Maryland, Here I Come

Posted by thegeekcorner on May 29, 2009 at 10:17 PM Comments comments (0)

That's right folks, I'll be going on vacation to Maryland next week.  You see, my brother is graduating, and I figured I might as well go down there and see him.  Not just me of course.  As of this moment in time, my grandpa, Uncle Rich, and Uncle Chris will be going.  In two cars of course.  I'll be staying from this Sunday, May 31, till the following Sunday, June 7.  The others will only be there until Tuesday, June 2.  So that's the real reason why we're taking two cars.  Plus, who wants to fit the four of us in the car?

I'm not sure of the exact plans when I'm down there.  Well, the biggies of course would be Sean's graduation, and then Sean's graduation party.  Other than that, everything is kind of hazy.  I believe that I'll be seeing Diana's kid on Wednesday, though I'm not positive about that.  It'll be nice to see her.  I don't know why though.  She has a boyfriend/fiancee/baby's daddy, so I doubt I would get anywhere really with her anyways.  I know it's stupid for me to think that I could, but hey, I'm a guy, I'm entitled to some of thsoe thoughts.  Speaking of such thoughts, I also though about hooking up with either Megan or April when I'm down (maybe even both, but that was really ambitious).  Doubt that will happen though.  April doesn't seem interested, which I can't really blame her for either, and Megan seems to have gone lesbian.  Though she seemed rather happy to hear that I'm coming down, so who knows?

But more importantly than that, I'm seeing Joel and Steven.  I haven't seen those losers in damn near a year now.  I can't wait to see them and just be a total dork around them.  It'll be nice to just let lose and play some Magic, or Pokemon, or ... whatever the hell we want to play.  And probably end up getting a 555 deal from Dominoes or at least score some Chic Fil A.  Those guys are the greatest.  Definitely one of the bigger longings I get from Waldorf still.  We are totally hitting it up.  Heck yeah.  SO EXCITED!

Peace Out.

Lets Do A Short Rant Tonight

Posted by thegeekcorner on May 27, 2009 at 10:31 PM Comments comments (0)

Yep, that's right, we are doing a rant tonight peope.  Not a very strong one, or a very mean one, or a very long one.  It's going to be about Best Buy too.  Why?  Because hey, you have to rant about your job from time to time.  And now is my time.

Now really, here's what is bothering me about Best Buy right now.  It's the way we do business.  Both as a whole company, and all the way down to an individual level as well.  I think we are just way to pushy.  We contact the customer, they say they don't want to be helped right now, they are just looking, and the supervisors just want us to keep pushing for the sale.  It's stupid.  Personally, I hate that way of selling.  I don't think that it builds customer relationships at all.  I've had plenty of people just walk away because it's just too much at one time.

On a more personal level, I think we are just way to lax on everything else.  I know that's probably just me, but it bothers me.  It's more about sellng something to people than actually helping them.  Like shutting down everything even though there are still people our section and there's still ten minutes of shopping time left.  Yeah I realize you want to get done and out as soon as possible, but Mark takes forever to approve us to go anyways, so there was no reason to start shutting everything down that early.  And I did pretty much all the closing details, you didn't realy do a single thing tonight Brady.  But whatever.

Peace Out.
