An Indepth Look Into A Geek's Soul

The Life

All By Myself

So, I've randomly seen into various people's habitats lately, and what I've seen is rather not what I expected.  People seem to live rather clean lives.  Now, from some people, I totally understand that.  I mean, I just randomly saw into Sam's living area because I happened to click on some link she posted on her facebook.  It was a weird site by the way, some techno thing where people chatted and listened to some guy do his DJ thing and they also had some webcams up and what not.  Yeah, not for me, that's for sure.  Still, it took me like time to realize that Sam was one of the girls with the webcam up.  First it shocked me, then I was like, her little corner of the world looks awesome.  And a bit neater than I would have expected, knowning what few things I know of her.

Probably the bigger shocker I got yesterday though, when I went to Free Comic Day at Top of the Ninth with Chris.  You see, we stopped by his apartment first, to pick up his little brother.  I was expecting to find something along the lines of a decent bit of clutter, seeing as how he never seemed to be one to be all the clean.  I was totally shocked to find that his apartment was damn near spotless.  Even his room was clean.  I just didn't expect that of him at all.  He's not exactly a slob, he just comes off as not caring about picking up, like it's not the first thing on his do to list.  Plus, his car was kinda messy, not filthy, just sorta messy, like most cars.  And I assumed that his house was going to be like that.

I guess what I'm saying is that from what little I've seen of these people's room, I've gotten such a grasp of their personality.  Chris has these comics, nice, old ones, I think like the first issues of various series, framed and hanging on his wall.  Sam had some random ass poster of what I think was a band on the part of the wall I can see.  And both were totally a lot cleaner than I expected.

It just makes me think about my place, you know?  Well, my room at my grandpa's at least.  It's not very clean, though I have been picking up lately.  What does that mean exactly?  That I'm a slob?  That I don't care about myself?  That I see myself as a piece of trash?  Is my room really all that personal at all?  In a way, I suppose it's personal in that cheesy, high school way.  I have lots of posters up, almost all of them being rooted in the the realm of fantasy.  My legos are at the front of the room.  My desk faces a window.  A geek who wants to get outside?  Is that what my room says about me?  Hell if I know.  I just know I need to clean up some more.

And here you thought this was going to super emo.  Nope, it's only mildly so.

Peace Out.

The End of a Semester

Posted by thegeekcorner on May 2, 2009 at 9:08 PM Comments comments (0)

This last school semester ended for me on Thursday.  That's right, no more school for something like 4 months or something.  That is just freaking awesome.  School wasn't hard this semester or anything, in fact it was a cake walk, but I'm still glad it's done.  I liked most of my classes this semester, probably more than the other students in those classes.  Sure, there will be one or two people that I'll miss talking to me, like Ashley, but hey, she didn't show up to the last day of class anyways, so she probably didn't really like talking to me that much anyways.  I'm not sure what my grades are yet, I don't think they'll be posted until around the 7th, so what's that?  Friday or something?  Yeah, I think that is the date.

The classes I plan on takinig next semester are Accounting Principales, Economics, Calculus 2, and English 112.  I know, exciting stuff isn't it?  I don't remember if I told all of you guys or not, but I switched my major to accounting.  Yeah, I'm pretty hardcore like that.  I'm going to be an accountant.  Suck on that asronomers.  Yeah, I still love astronomy, and I'll probably be outside at night all the time this summer, but accountanting is going to help me a lot more in that so called real world that I'm looking forward to yet am absolutely terrified of.

In a random off topic paragraph, the Top of the Ninth was holding a Free Comic Book day.  Hell yeah.  I went with a couple of guys from work, and I got some more Knights of the Old Republic, issues #9, #19, and #20 I believe, as well as some nice freebies.  I don't remember all of them, but I know one of them was the Avengers.  It was told through the point of Spiderman, which is alright I suppose.  He definitey has a way different attitude from the other superheroes.  That's for sure.

Peace Out.

Sweet Glorious Day

Today was an absolutely glorious day outside.  It got up to around 80 degrees outside, which I haven't seen this side of last year.  The water in the lake is flowing freely and absolutely free of ice, and the sun was out for a good part of the day.  Indeed, few things could have made this day better.  Well, no class would have been nice, but it was only an hour long today so it wasn't all bad.  Did I tell you all that I finished my englsih class alright?  Yeah, totally sweet.  I'm fairly certain that they kicked total ass in that class, but I'm still waiting for the grades from the two last papers we did.  I'm suspecting a 4.0 in the class though.

In sad news though, I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.  Wait, why is tihs sad you ask?  Dumbledore dies.  And I'm at the chapter where they to go to the cave.  Yeah.  He's gonna die in the next hundred pages.  That puts his death at somewhere around 12:20ish tonight/next morning.  And that just means I'll be all teary eyed again.  Damn Harry Potter and his making me feel sad for the lose of fictional characters.

I'm not going to be able to survive that movie this summer....

Alright, I'm leaving this one short.  Deal with it.  Also, Lady Gaga is sexy. I don't care how weirdly she dresses.

Peace Out.

A Recap

Posted by thegeekcorner on April 21, 2009 at 10:38 PM Comments comments (1)

There isn't a whole lot going on recently, well at least not a whole lot of any real importance.  We'll just do another random jump around post where I don't really accomplish anything besides waste a couple minutes of your time and a great chunk of mine.  Interesting note on these blogs:  for as short as they are, the time I take writing them would seem to be rather disproportional.

I think the biggest news is that the fridge in the house just recently took a nose dive.  I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with it. It's been making a lot of noise lately, which I'm going to assume isn't a good thing.  Then tonight it was all like, "I'M FLOODING THE FLOOR!!" and preceeded to do so without even asking the human occupants of the house if we were okay with that.  Obviously this fridge does not have manners, just a cold heart.  My grandpa will be looking at it tomorrow, but more than likely will be getting a new one.  Money is tight, which really sucks, so hopefully this won't break him.

Lets see, what else has been happening lately?  Oh, I did get some new comcis today.  I picked up two more copies of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic as well as the first issue of Ultimate X Men.  Yeah, I love the X Men, what can I say.  Not sure if it's X-Men or X Men though.  Need to look into that.  Anyways, unknown to my limited brain, there happened to be a copy of the first issue of the Ultimate Fantastic Four on the reverse flip side of my X Men comic.  It was like a double issue type thing.  So hey, I'll read that I guess.  See how bad it is.  Who knows, the movies weren't great, but comics don't always translate well onto those new fangled movie picture boxes.

And to wrap things up, I'm sorry if I've been creeping anyone out lately.  I know I bug a lot of you at random times of the day.  Like Diana on facebook in the morning and Jen on twitter at night.  Heck, even Ashley too, around class time, but seeing as how she doesn't know about this, she might not get this apology.  If it's getting too bad for you guys, call me out on it.  I sometimes don't always know when to stop.

Also, if anyone knows how to stop thinking, I would greatly appreciate a tip on that.  At night it gets really hard to fall asleep because my mind dwells on all the signs I should have picked up that Amanda wasn't happy in the relationship, and yeah, it makes for a sad Jon.  So unless you want me to be sad everynight, which I know you don't, you should help me out.

Peace Out.

In Case of Boredom, Do Open This Box

So in my day to day light ramblings, I happened to stumble back across a beloved old friend of mine that I had totally forgotten about over the course of a year or so.  It's the lovely site Pandora.  It's a pretty sweet site.  What it is is a free internet radio site playing music that is more or less catered to what you like to listen to.  Let me explain this in a bit more depth.  You sign up for the site and it asks you to type in the name of a song, artist, whatever that you like listening to.  Now, the first song that starts playing is generally by that group.  From there, you can give the song a thumbs up or a thumbs down, and it will try to offer you other music that has sounds simliar to your interests.   You can also keep adding in the names of songs or artists as you please, so it will grow your musical collection.  And then it just keeps going.

I've hard fairly good luck with it so far.  It seems to be able to guess what I like fairly well.  It can tell I like the happy go lucky songs with the faster beats, and even though I haven't asked them to add the Offspring or the Goo Goo Dolls, they still work their way onto my station.  It's pretty damn good, considering my two bands even remotely close to them that I added was Sum 41 and Blink 182.  Other than that, it's been mostly Disney songs or othe rmusicals.  Note to self:  Remember to add Grease on there...

You can also have more than station on there, which helps if you have a craving for a particular genre of music and don't want to be bothered with the random Weird Al song popping in there while you're listening to Metalica.  Just seems to kind of ruin the mood, know what I mean?  If Pandora had one big flaw, it's that you can't have it just play one particular song whenever you want.  It is a radio afterall, and you never know what will be coming up.  Another flaw in the system:  it's tried to play Kayne West on me twice.  Man, he's a douche.

Seriously though guys, I think you should try it out.  The site is www.pandora.com.  Sign up and rock out with your socks out.  Also, it seemed to actually include the link this time.  Why couldn't you do that for xkcd?  Gosh webs.com, you're being so silly.

Peace Out.

It's Been Awhile

Sorry about the delay in posting a new one of these in so long.  Okay, not really all that long, it's only been three days afterall, but still, it's longer than I would have hoped for when it comes down to it.  I want it done everyday, realistically I hope to get it done at least every other day.  So, going three days with no blog  is just wrong.  It's not like I have any real reason for not updating.  I've just been sitting at my grandfather's, not being social.  It's nice being by myself, I can't lie.  I rather enjoy it.  Ick, I hope I don't end up being a hermit.  That would just be not nice.  I'd have no one to play DnD with.

I've been doing a lot of dorky things lately.  Rebuilding some of my DnD characters, whom I might end up posting on the site here, has been the biggest thing lately.  I did, however, spluge on some Star Wars Miniatures today.  I got some nice ones too.  I wanted to start building a Rebel squad, but alas, getting Darth Vader, Legacy of the Force just lends itself to building an Imperial squad instead.  And oh boy is it a squad.  Well, it's alright.  Vader takes up most of the poitns allowed to build the squad with, but that's alright with me.

Anyways, a terrible game I'm going to try has just finished downloading, so I'm going to amuse myself until I just can't stand it anymore.  Something tells me that'll take about an hour.  Le sigh.

Peace Out.

An Epic Quest

Posted by thegeekcorner on April 1, 2009 at 6:45 PM Comments comments (0)

I totally went on a quest today my friends.  A quest so epic that few people have ever lived to tell of it.  What was this quest for you ask?  Gold?  Fame?  Horny women wanting to get it on with you?  NO!  It was for the mighty, travel sized, Hero Clix!

WHAT?!?!  I know, I know.  But let me explain before you all get your panties in a bunch. Collin and I had a mandate today, with the biggest reasons being that we were going to go to Top of the Ninth, get some Hero Clix, and fight each other.  Why?  Mostly because we are awesome.  Needless to say, we started this quest at around 3:30 and didn't find them until around 5:15.  It was amazing.  Let me hit you up with the details now.  We hit up Top of the Ninth, which is this tiny comic shop that Collin goes to every now and then. It's a nice comic book shop, don't get me wrong.  Even made me want to buy some Knight of the Old Republic comics.  I'm not going to right now, but it was definitely tempting.  Anyways, all they had were some crappy individual Hero Clix, we didn't want any.  Our search went elsewhere.

Borders was next on our shop.  I thought I've seen them there.  I was wrong.  We hit up Toys R Us, which happend to be right next door.  Was it there?  No, no it was nice.  Some nice Pokemon cards, but no Hero Clix.  Quickly, across the street to the mall!  We hit up Target, nothing is there.  We hit up Game Stop, nothing there either.  We head on over to FYE, but didn't expect to find anything there.  We didn't, but we did see Amanda.  She's looking great by the way, and looks fantastic.  She got a hair cut, it looks perfect on her.  And you know what?  It really wasn't that awkward either.  Yay!

She left, we left, our lack of Hero Clix ruining our mandate.  Then it hit me.  What about the Fun Factory I managed to mime to Collin.  GENIUS!  We rush over there, overjoyed to see that it's still open.  The door swings open, and SHIZAM! (who's getting healed?) there they are, in all their wonderful glory.  And on sale.  3 packs for $10.  Done and done. We packed up some packs (3 and a pack of Magic cards for me, 6 packs for Collin) and head to Taco Bell.  Hey, we were hungry.  After that, we headed to the library, where the real action happens.  We played the game.  For roughly 2 hours.  That's right, we played to about 8:30 at night.  Crazy.  The games went about 50/50 for the wins.  We picked up some books after that, and called the mandate an end.  I mean, we called the Epic Quest of Hero Clix an end.  Yes.

Peace Out.

Old Memories

So this is going to be a rather sappy and sad and depressing blog today guys, so feel free to skip over this one.  Yes, it's about Amanda, or at least mostly about Amanda.  Yeah, I still miss her, I still want her, and I still just want her to talk to me.

I was going through my inbox today, mostly because I was bored, and also because it needed to be done.  I had something along the lines of 500+ emails in the main portion of it.  Now, I have something more like, zero.  Yeah, I brought them down a hell of a lot.  Got rid of a lot of dumb crap I didn't need to hang on to, those kinds of things.  Anyways, some of the emails that I had to sort were from Amanda.  A few from after the break up, but mostly from before them.  Back when we were happy.  Well, when I was happy and she was pretending to be happy.  I read them all too.  Why?  I don't know, maybe I just wanted to punish myself for letting the best damn thing in my life go.  I don't think she realizes just how much she means to me.  It hurts when I see her on AIM when I log on, and then she sees me and logs off.  I don't know if that's what really happens, but that's how it feels when I can't even be able to talk to her.  It's slowly destroying me.

I just hope that she still wants to talk to me.  She says that I am closer to her than Collin is.  Yeah, I don't see that.  I think it's more like she can't stand me.  Now, this is a paranoid rambling right now, so this has about no basis in reality whatsoever, but it's how I feel sometimes.  We were supposed to go and play some DnD on Wednesday, over at Collin's house.  Now, Collin said that Jimmy will be there, but then she said she won't be there.  Well, probably won't be there.  I bet it's all because of me.  She can't stand to be anywhere near me.  i don't know what's so undesirable about me.  I'm an alright guy.  She'd just rather be with somebody, anybody else.  Who can really blame her though?  There's nothing about me that you couldn't get on a hotter, nicer, funnier, more polished man.  There's nothing she wants in me.  No wonder she hates me.

Peace Out.

The Hunt for a New Car

Posted by thegeekcorner on March 28, 2009 at 9:37 PM Comments comments (0)

So me and my grandfather went car hunting today.  Yes, it's true, my Cavalier is still not able to shift into reverse damn it all.  My dad won't help me out money wise either until I get my car into the shop.  I guess that he doesn't trust an estimate unless the mechanics have some money in their pocket to tell me the same damn thing.  Honestly, that man is so thick sometimes.  It's a wonder he could find a girl to cheat on my mom with.

Anyways, back to the story at hand.  We only went to one place, this little used Subaru dealership.  It was nice because the saleman wasn't pushy, he kind of just let us be.  I did test drive this one Impreza, and I liked it well enough.  It was an older car, I can't deny that, but still newer than my Cavalier.  It's a 1996 with something like 130,000 miles on it, so for a 13 year old car, that's not too shabby.  It drove well enough, I'd say at least as good as my Cavalier does.  Plus it goes in reverse!  I know, it's freaking sweet.  It's even got a cassette player.  I know, sounds like crap, but my old car didn't even have that.  I know, crazy.

Anyways, it's nothing that important really, I don't have the money for a new car, and probably won't have it for some time now.  The car is only $3500, which is awesome.  Something that could be within my grasp if I talk my way through it all.  We'll see in the end.  As my grandfather always says, we have time.  Not too terribly much, but we have it at least.

To end this, I just have two things to say.  First, I'm on spring break now.  Hit  me up sometime guys, I've got like zero friends now that Amanda broke up with me.  Second, Mulan is on the Disney Channel right now.  Watch it.

Peace Out.

One of Those Days

Posted by thegeekcorner on March 25, 2009 at 9:20 PM Comments comments (0)

Yeah, today was filled with all kinds of not that super awesome.  It was actually kind of boring and blah all day, with not much respite from it all.  Perhaps that why I didn't want to wake up this morning.  Set the alarm for 7, woke up at 9.  You know how it is.  So without further ado, lets go ahead and start listing what's what of why today sucked.

I don't know how many of you know, but I need a new car.  Like a lot.  Cause mine doesn't go in reverse.  Anyways, it'll be about $1700 to repair the thing, though of course my dad doesn't trust what the repair mechanics say over the phone.  He wants me to give them money first before they can tell me the same exact news.  Great.  But the price of a new car that will actually last seems to be going up, at least the ones my grandpa has been finding lately.  It's rather annoying.  I think we're at $4000 now.  Great.

At school, everything continued to be rather stupid.  Math was more of the same.  He's a good teacher, but he teaches so slow.  I can't stand it sometimes.  Look, we're not going to be using any of the proofs that you are showing us, so why bother showing us?  It's far mroe confusing without the numbers.  Show me the damn numbers and let me continue on my way.

English was almost decent.  Now see, I don't mind the class nearly as much as everyone else does.  I mean, that's the class I have Ashley with, so it can't be all bad, now can it?  The answer is no.  Yeah, wasn't there today.  That's twice in a row man.  That's just annoying.  I hope she hasn't dropped the class, that would just be the worse.  That would effectively leave me without friends in that class for the last month.  Ick.  Also, remember that job that you read about?  Yeah, probably won't be getting that either.  It seems that you have to have completed English 112, and here I am, still in English 111.  Damn it.

Like I said, bad day.  So I should probably go to bed and wake up and have a bad day tomorrow.  It's a work day.  Joy.

Peace Out.
